February is here and also The Island Batik Blog Hop! This time the 25 Island Batik Ambassadors will be using the latest Spring Collections to show you all about Log Cabin Quilts and also with awesome giveaways! I know... this is really exciting!
This is actually the second week of the Blog Hop, so if you didn't enjoy the fun last week don't forget to check the blog and see all the beautiful projects and the opportunity to enter the giveaway! Bellow you have some visual motivation of this week's prize, Island Batik Kismet Collection, from Tammy Silvers. (Click the image for the giveaway link)
I love log cabin blocks and for this time I really wanted something different, but not complicated. I started to design my quilt at EQ8, and also ended up using one of the "ready to go" blocks. Here is a "screen shot" from my computer, in case you are not familiar. First I open the EQ Block Library, on the 02 "Contemporary Pieced" (yessss... "Contemporary" is my jam!) and than Log Cabin-Like. The "Plaid Fab" is the last block on the list.
I was very very lucky with the collection that the Island Batik Team chose for me. Forget me Not, from Kathy Engle, is a gorgeous blue and yellow collection perfect for a "plaid style" quilt!
You can download the Plaid Log Cabin Quilt Pattern for free here.
Schmetz Microtex (Sharp) needles for piecing and attaching the binding.
I used two layers of Hobbs Heirloom Premium 80/20 Cotton/Poly Blend Batting (one of my favorites from Hobbs).
I decided to quilt with an edge to edge pantograph design, "Ripples" published by Lorien Quilting from Urban Elementz. The quilting was made with the same Aurifil 50wt color 2105, that I used for piecing.
The Plaid Log Cabin Quilt is a project inspired by summer, the cabin at the beach, the long days with summer breeze. It will definitely move to and live in my car in a couple of months! I hope you liked and don't forget to download and print the free pattern. If you finish your version of this quilt, don't forget to share images using the #plaidlogcabinquilt hashtag, I always love to see your projects ;)
I already mentioned the Island Batik Blog Hop giveaway, so now is time to talk about mine!!!
