“Bird Song” Fabric Tour with Pat Sloan + Worldwide Giveaway!
Hello friends and welcome to my stop on Day 2 of the “Bird Song” Fabric Tour with the amazing Pat Sloan and Benartex!
I feel like 2022 is a “Pat and me” collaboration year! You can click here to check our latest project together for her book “Tantalizing Table Toppers”. I’m so glad to be back, this time with the opportunity to play with Pat’s new fabric collection “Bird Song” and being part of her Fabric Tour!
If you follow me here or in my other social medias (Instagram and Faceboook), you probably noticed that one of my personalities loves garment sewing! When I saw the images of the Bird Song collection, my first thought was “those fabrics are sooo beautiful and perfect for some garment sewing!”
Like in my previous collaboration work with Pat, it was a mission impossible to choose a fabric for my garment project. After a lot of thought, I chose the Feathered Friends in Willow to make the Recital Shirt, a pattern from Liesl + CO (sizes 0-20 and A/B, C and D cup sizes).
The Recital Shirt is an intermediate level pattern and comes with two options. View A, features a band collar with ruffle trim and a continuous (cut-on) placket. View B, includes a pleated tuxedo-style front with separate (set-in) front placket and of course, tuxedo collar.
I decided to make the View A, with the ruffle collar. Because it was the very first time I was sewing a shirt like this, I opted to make a test project before actually sewing with the real fabric. It takes more time, but it’s also good to make a test.
Another cool tip is, first I always concentrate in transfer and cut all the templates shapes without actually transferring all the inside markings. Because it is just too overwhelming for me to do all the information at once and I also have a terrible memory.
So, after cutting all the templates, I use my A3 Led Light Pad to transfer the notches and all the marks for each template as I go with the pattern instructions. I feel like this helps me to understand better what I need to do for each step of the pattern.
Yes! My favorite part is the ruffle collar. Don’t spare pins on this part, you want to make sure that everything is secure before you start sewing. As you can see by the image, I’m part of the group “better safe than sorry” even when I’m using my BERNINA 8 Series!
I would say that the Recital Shirt is a two afternoon project. And below you can check the final result!
The perfect shirt addition for your Summer/Fall closet!
