Garment Fun
I don't always sew garments but when I do... it's always FUN!
"The products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik"
For years now I had my eyes on The Gyo pattern from Merchant & Mills, I wish that I had more time to try ALL their patterns! I decided to make the top version but still have future plans for a Gyo dress too.
I bought the paper pattern online of one of my local quilt shops, Cate's Sew Modern, because it was during the quarantine this year. It was my first customer experience with them and they are excellent, super fast shipping!
The pattern is Japanese inspired with an asymmetrical twist. It said "advanced beginner" but I would say beginner, my only advice is to pay extra attention with the length of the top. I am a petit woman and usually don't need to add extra inches to make the patterns longer, but If I do this one again I would totally add 2-3" at the length.
You already know about my fabric choice, so, I also used Aurifil 40wt color 2692 and I strongly recommend a thicker thread weight to sew garments (gosh, in COTON please!!!) and my wonderful new machine Pfaff Creative Icon (the legend).
How gorgeous is the Island Batik version of The Gyo Top?! I love the result and I don't even need to say that it became my favorite top this summer!
Enjoy the rest of your summer and I'll see you soon ;)
