Batik Crush

Batik Crush Templates

It's February and the Island Batik Ambassadors event is about "Magnificent Minis", but this month is also all about Valentines... So, can you guess what my Mini is about? (it's funny because in Swiss German "mini" means "mine")

"The products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik."

When we relocated from Switzerland to US (Connecticut) in 2016, was early february and we had so many snow days than the kids started school very close to Valentine's day. And I was so impressed because that day my son came back home with Valentine's cards from each kid of his classroom. This totally melted my heart, the boy was having such a hard time with the relocation, leaving his old school and his friends in Switzerland, all the new things to learn in such a short time and all those Valentine's cards were a lovely, lovely way to welcome him.

I believe the truly "Valentine Spirit" is to make someone feel special and... making someone happy can also warm your own heart ;)

So here I am, with my Valentine to YOU!

My "Batik Crush" is a 6 1/2" square Foundation Piecing Pattern, you can actually do how many you want or add some borders, but my goal was use the block for a mug rug to my Valentine ;) The entire project took me 2 hours, including quilting!

You can download the Batik Crush pdf pattern here (don't forget to scale 100% before print!)

Now, back to the pattern... You can check all the fabric requirements on the pdf and also the block instructions!

Make sure you print both pages: Pattern and Foundation Piecing Templates!

Before I start a Foundation Piecing project I like to cut all the paper templates (don't forget to keep the 1/4" seam allowances marks), get familiar with the shapes and sewing instructions.

Sew the pieces of fabric to the foundation templates in numerical order.

When the block was done I did my "quilt sandwich" with an 8" square of batik fabrics for the backing and used Hobbs 100% cotton for the batting.

For the quilting, I used Aurifil Thread in 50wt, color 2566.

You can check my quilting plan on the video bellow!

And happy quilting ;)
